Man charged with molesting seven-year-old

Kota Kinabalu: A 38-year-old unemployed man was charged in the Sessions Court here Monday with committing physical sexual offences against a seven-year-old girl.

Jaiman Keminlian pleaded not guilty before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to committing the offence against the minor by touching her body in a house at Likas on Jan 16.

The offence under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping on conviction.

The prosecution offered no bail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Suriyati Jumain prosecuted while Jaiman was not represented.

Meanwhile, Jaiman was also charged in the Magistrate’s Court with two counts of having stolen properties and taking drugs.

Jaiman, who was brought before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali, claimed trial to having stolen trousers belonging to Nurkasumi Anuar at 10.55 am on Jan 16 at a village in Likas.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years or a fine, on conviction.

On the other charge of taking drugs, no plea was taken from Jaiman while waiting for the chemist’s report.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.

Duty counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Jaiman, applied for a lower bail.

The court set March 19 for mention of both charges and offered the accused bail at RM3,000 and RM1,500 on each of the charges.
