A TRADER has been charged with murder at the Magistrates’ Court in Klang after allegedly ramming a motorcycle carrying two suspected gunmen, resulting in the death of one of the riders.

R Ganesalingam, 49, nodded to indicate he understood the charge when it was read before Magistrate A Khartiyayini on Friday.

However, no plea was recorded because murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge, the accused is alleged to have murdered K Tinesh Kumar, 33, at the junction leading into Taman Seri Kapar, Batu 12, Jalan Keretapi Lama off Jalan Kapar between 9.46am and 9.47am on March 5.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and, if the death penalty is not imposed, at least 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Syuhada Rosli handled the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Nathiya Kamalanathan, appearing on behalf of V Ayasamy.

The court did not grant bail and set April 22 for the next mention of the case.

In a separate statement, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the incident involved two local men riding a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle and a man driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

He said the sequence of events began when the motorcycle rider was believed to have fired a shot at an employee of the four-wheel-drive driver in Kampung Perepat, Klang.

Shazeli said the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle then pursued the motorcycle to Jalan Keretapi Lama.

During the pursuit, the pillion rider allegedly pointed an object resembling a pistol before the four-wheel-drive vehicle rammed the motorcycle, causing both riders to fall and be dragged at the entrance junction to Taman Seri Kapar.

The pillion rider was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer, while the motorcycle rider sustained injuries. - March 13, 2026
