
Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here, Monday, with murdering his former girlfriend in a shopping centre here last month.
Chung King Fung @ Haider Daniel Chung Abdullah appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles with both hands in casts.
Chung, a company personal assistant, was accused of committing the offence to one Nurul Ain Silien, 21, between noon and 12.20pm on May 29 at the Polar Ice Cream shop in Jesselton Mall, Jalan Haji Saman.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty on conviction.

No plea was taken from Chung as his plea would only be recorded in the High Court after his case is transferred.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik applied for a new mention date pending the post-mortem report from the hospital and the forensic and DNA reports from the Chemist Department.
Counsel Chin Tek Ming, who represented the accused together with counsel Jul Hamri Jumhani, applied for the prosecution to speed up the process of getting all the documents.

Chung was ordered to be further remanded as the charge against him has no provision for bail.
Counsel Nabila Norsahar held a watching brief for the victim’s family.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family, when met by the media outside the courtroom after the proceedings, requested that the trial of the case be conducted in a transparent and efficient manner in order to defend the fate of the young victim.
The victim’s mother, Datuk Siti Aminah Jabarkhan, confirmed that the victim was never officially engaged with the accused.
In another case, a labourer claimed trial to threatening to kill a woman.
Mohd Zulkarnain Ajamain, 28, allegedly committed the offence to one Nisha Sania by uttering “Kamu mahu saya bunuh kau, mahu saya kasi mati kau (You want me to kill you)” to her at 1am on June 3 in a rented room at Bandaran Berjaya, here.
Zulkarnain was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine, or both, on conviction.
The magistrate set July 17 for case management and released the accused on a bail of RM1,500 in two sureties and also ordered him to report himself to the investigating officer once a fortnight.
