
A MAN has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Segamat, Johor, with the murder of his friend, who was allegedly stabbed during a violent altercation in Chaah last month.
The accused, S Kumarasan, 30, acknowledged the charge with a nod after it was read out by a court interpreter before Magistrate Amalina Johar. However, no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, Kumarasan is accused of killing Loges Krishnan, 23, at the compound of a house in Taman Resak Sri Chaah at approximately 1.30pm on 12 March.
He has been charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years and up to 12 strokes of the cane, if not sentenced to death, upon conviction.
At the time of the proceedings, the accused was already serving a five-month prison sentence at Kluang Prison for a separate offence involving causing injury to another victim with a knife.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur 'Aina Muhammad Ismail Tadj, while the accused was unrepresented.
The court fixed 22 June for the mention of chemical, pathology and clinical reports. Bail was not offered. - April 30, 2026
