Manchester City captain's armband will be worn by several players in the coming weeks.
Right-back Kyle Walker, who skippered the side in their recent games, admitted he was part of a leadership group in the squad.
Walker named Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Bernardo Silva as being in the group too.
