Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu says he's ready to battle for a place at Southampton.

The 20-year-old is yet to play in the Premier League, most recently featuring in League One whilst on loan with Portsmouth, but on the international stage Bazunu has already been capped 10 times by the Republic of Ireland.

In an interview with the Irish Football Fan TV Youtube channel, Bazunu stated: "I want to fight for my place now at Southampton and break into the team and prove myself and enjoy my football, and show everyone what I can do.

"I feel like we have made really good decisions up to now, and I feel this will be a really good decision as well that I will look back on and be really thankful for.

“I have never been one for sitting back and hoping things will happen.

“I want to make my own decisions and keep things in my control, and for me, making this move to Southampton feels like the decision that will allow me to have the most control over my future."

Shining a light on just how quickly a move materialised, Bazunu explained his decision making in choosing Saints.

"There were a few clubs interested, but for me, the amount of effort Southampton put in and how quickly they worked on things," mentioned the Dublin-born shot stopper.

“How quickly they wanted to get things done was massive for me.

“They really showed a massive amount of faith in me and from speaking to the manager, he told me how much research they had done and how much they had been watching me at Portsmouth and from there, I got a really good feel for it.

“I feel it is a massive club in terms of where it can go and you see the amount of players they have developed and they showed me a pathway and it is one I want to follow."
