The goalkeeper has still not recovered from the fractured eye socket he suffered in a recent Premier League game.
Ederson, who was in tears when he came off against Tottenham in a 2-0 win, now has to sit out the summer as well.
Brazil will not have a huge issue in this regard, as they can call on Liverpool's Alisson Becker instead.
The goalkeeper is also regarded as one of the best in the world and may have started regardless of Ederson's availability.
Brazil manager Dorival Junior has excluded Ederson from the Copa America squad.
