Mundo Deportivo says City have tried to sign Bald this summer.
But the youngster rejected a bumper contract offer from the Champions League winners.
Instead, Balde is now close to extending his contract with Barcelona.
Bald will be the obvious first choice left-back this new season with Jordi Alba having left.
