Manchester City will join Barcelona in a battle to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
The Sky Blues are set to lose Dutch defender Nathan Ake, who is a key target for Chelsea this summer.
If they are to sell Ake, City will want to line up a replacement before the season begins.
According to ESPN, they are looking at French centre-half Kounde as the ideal player to add to the squad.
Kounde is strongly linked to Barcelona, and was a target for Chelsea earlier in this transfer window.
The 23-year-old is one who Sevilla are hoping to sell to balance their books.
