
Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old man was charged in the Sessions Court here with cheating another man of a high-end smartphone worth RM4,400 last year.
Chu Yu Long pleaded not guilty before Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to deceiving the victim into handing over an iPhone 16 Pro Max 512GB at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital main entrance at about 6.30pm on Nov 11, 2025.
The offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
The court fixed Sept 5 for case management and released Chu on RM5,000 bail with two local sureties, alongside orders to report to the Menggatal police station monthly, surrender his passport, and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
