
Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday to a charge of dishonestly retaining stolen property.
Daniel Patrick appeared before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus and denied committing the offence at 2.31am on Nov 1 at University Utama Condominium, Telipok.
He was accused of dishonestly keeping 28 units of stolen water meter stopcocks belonging to the condominium.
The offence, under Section 411 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
The court set Jan 14 next year for pre-trial case management and granted Daniel bail of RM2,000 with two local sureties.
In a separate case, four individuals were jailed for drug-related offences.
Liana Ana Yussof was sentenced to 10 months’ jail for possessing 4.80g of syabu on June 14 in Manggatal.
Shahful Azman received eight months’ jail, while Amir Hamzah and Abdulhan Idris were each sentenced to seven months for possessing smaller amounts of syabu (0.04g and 0.03g respectively).
Amir was also sentenced to five months’ jail for taking syabu under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
All were charged under Section 12(2) of the Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, jail of up to five years, or both.
