Selangor authorities detain a man in his 40s after a viral video shows a kitten being thrown against a wall in a self-service laundrette.
KAJANG: A man has been detained by the Selangor Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) over the alleged abuse of a kitten at a laundrette. The suspect, believed to be in his 40s, was held following a public outcry over a viral video.
The 59-second clip showed a man repeatedly throwing a kitten against a wall and onto a mattress. Selangor DVS officers were deployed to the scene after receiving complaints.
An inspection at the self-service laundrette found a kitten believed to be the one from the video. Officers later located the suspect near the premises.
“Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect is believed to have committed the act between 3.40 am and 3.50 am yesterday,” the department stated. A remand application was filed under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The suspected kitten and a mobile phone believed to belong to the suspect were also seized. These items will be examined as part of the investigation under the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
