Man detained to assist probe into death of Orang Asli youth

KUANTAN: Police detained a 38-year-old man to facilitate the investigation into the death of a young Orang Asli man in Kampung Tekal Forest, Sungai Koyan, Lipis, on Monday (April 29).

Lipis District police chief, Supt Ismail Man, said around 11am, the suspect brought the victim in a vehicle to the Sungai Koyan police station, claiming that the 22-year-old youth had been hit by a stray bullet.

“At 12.30pm a Medical Officer from the Sungai Koyan health clinic confirmed the victim’s death.

“The police then detained the man at the station to assist in the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code,“ he said in a statement tonight.

Ismail said preliminary investigations indicated that the incident is believed to have occurred between 1 and 2am on Monday.
