A massive fire broke out in the Bansan wala bazar (bamboo market) located in the Rambagh area on Thursday evening, causing damage to more than 25 shops. One person is feared to have died after being trapped in the fire.

Around 25 shops dealing in bamboo, wood, iron and tyres were damaged in the incident. Several shops were completely gutted in the blaze.

The market is known for making bamboo products, wooden ladders and other related items. Due to the highly flammable material stored in the area, the fire spread very quickly and soon turned massive.

Eyewitnesses said huge flames could be seen rising several feet high in the air, creating chaos in the surrounding area. One person seen struggling to come out from flames but burnt alive.

The person yet to identified. Soon after receiving information, fire brigade teams and officials from concerned departments reached the spot and started efforts to control the fire.

Heavy financial losses are feared as large quantities of goods kept inside the shops were destroyed. Administrative teams are also present at the site and nearby areas are being secured as a precautionary measure.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be known. The tyre market is also faced major loss.
