Man dies after 4WD swept away by Tawau floodwaters

A man drowned and three others survived after their 4WD vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Kampung Sungai Udin, Tawau, last night.

TAWAU: A man drowned while three others survived after the vehicle they were in was swept away by floodwaters in Kampung Sungai Udin, Merotai, last night.

The Tawau Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 9.34 pm about a four-wheel-drive vehicle that was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded area.

According to the complainant, the vehicle was transporting two motorcyclists and their motorcycles when it was caught by the current.

Fire personnel arrived at the scene, about 47 kilometres away, at 10.47 pm and found four male victims were involved.

Three victims were safe, but one motorcyclist was reported missing.

The body of the missing victim was discovered by a plantation worker at 7.15 am today.

It was found about 800 metres from where the victim had reportedly been swept away.

The body has been handed over to the police for further action.

The search and rescue operation ended at 8.44 am.
