Man dies after being assaulted while travelling home from Notting Hill Carnival

  • A 32-year-old man has died in hospital following a serious assault on the Central line platform at Liverpool Street Underground station at 10.51pm on Sunday.
  • The victim was making his way home after attending the Families and Children's Day at Notting Hill Carnival in west London when the incident occurred.
  • Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Barking, was initially charged with grievous bodily harm, but British Transport Police will apply to amend the charge following the victim's death.
  • British Transport Police Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn offered condolences to the victim's family and urged any witnesses to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.
  • The fatal assault took place on the first day of Notting Hill Carnival, with the Metropolitan Police stating on Sunday evening that they made 169 arrests during the day for offences including drug possession, weapon possession, assault, and sexual offences.
