Man drowns after falling into river while collecting clams in Perak

A 27-YEAR-OLD man who went missing after reportedly falling into Sungai Tuntung while foraging for clams near Pantai Remis near Ipoh yesterday evening was found drowned late last night.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that the body of Mohamad Zulkifli Mat Saad was discovered at approximately 11.30pm, about 10 metres from the spot where he was last seen.

Acting operations chief Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the search operation resumed at 11.15pm after the river level receded, allowing the rescue team to expand the search radius to one kilometre downstream.

“The search involved two boats and eight personnel, including four from the Water Rescue Team (PPDA). Members of the public also assisted by searching through the nearby mangrove area on foot,” he said in a statement today.

The victim’s body was retrieved via land access and was pronounced dead at the scene before being handed over to the police for further action. - October10, 2025
