SUNGAI PETANI: A man in his 30s was seriously injured after being electrocuted at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation in Taman Ria Jaya near here, in a suspected theft attempt.

Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said police received a call from a TNB technician at 2.08pm on April 27 reporting the incident.

Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) personnel found the suspect lying inside the substation with severe burns to his arm.

“He was detained and is receiving treatment,” he said in a statement tonight, adding there were no surveillance cameras or witnesses.

Initial checks showed the unemployed suspect has two prior records under Sections 379 and 324 of the Penal Code.

The case is being investigated under Section 457, and he has been remanded for three days.
