KINABATANGAN: A man is feared to have drowned while two others managed to save themselves after the boat they were on was swept away by strong currents in Sungai Ulu Segama, Kinabatangan, on Tuesday.

According to Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Nurul Azlan Shah Jamaluddin, he rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 12.04pm via MERS999.

“The caller said there were three victims who boarded the boat to work on installing iron cables in Sungai Ulu Segama.

“However, due to the strong river currents, the boat was swept away.

Nurul Azlan said the fire brigade carried out an operation to find the victim using the “surface water rescue” technique around 500 meters from where the victim was reported missing.

He said the search and rescue operation will resume today (Thursday).
