On 26 June, a resident of Las Vegas in the USA was doing some gardening, with no idea he was about to change the lives of two tiny creatures.
In his backyard, he found two tiny kittens huddled together in the grass, desperately in need of help.
An urgent situation
The man was immediately worried about them.
With temperatures rising and wild animals in the area, he knew he had very little time to save them. However, as he had never owned cats before, he didn't know what to do.
He quickly searched online for nearby animal shelters and came across Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions.
When the shelter staff agreed to take them in, the man put the kittens into a brown paper bag, as he had nothing else to carry them in.
He apologised for not having anything better to transport them in.
The shelter staff accepted the bag of kittens and thanked him for his help.
A clean bill of health
The rescuers welcomed the kittens with open arms and took them straight to the examination room.
Although they were a little nervous at first, the kittens calmed down quickly once they realised they were safe.
The kittens, later named Gingerale and Dr Pepper, were dirty and had a few scratches, but they were generally in good health.
They were placed in a foster home to rest and take all the time they need to recover.
The rescuers at HBCA hope that Gingerale and Dr Pepper will be adopted together.
Until then, these adorable little ones will continue to grow and heal, surrounded by the love and care of their foster family!
