Man fined for assaulting teen in trolley dispute

Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old man was fined RM1,400 or jailed four months for assaulting a 17-year-old male during a dispute over a rubbish trolley at a shopping mall here.

Yusran Sajid pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing the offence at the refuse disposal area on Level 3 of Suria Sabah, at 9pm, on April 29 this year.

The offence, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.

Inspector Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah, prosecuting, told the court that a fight broke out between Yusran and the complainant following a collision involving a rubbish trolley.

Yusran punched the complainant in the right eye, forehead and chin, and kicking his left leg.

The assault caused injuries to the complainant, including a wound on his forehead.

Yusran also threatened to assault the complainant again if they met outside the premises.

Yusran was arrested on April 30, following a police· report lodged by the complainant.

Unrepresented, Yusran asked for a lenient sentence, saying he had family members to support.

The prosecution urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence.

Meanwhile, two people were charged with dishonestly disposing of a stolen parcel.

Syahfis Sakaran, 36, and Salina Danan, 29, pleaded not guilty to disposing of a parcel belonging to one Adlin Nadira at a unit in Angkasa Apartment near here on June 6.

They were charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code.

Hamidi proposed bail at RM4,000 for each accused.

The duo, through their respective counsel, requested a lower bail amount.

The court fixed July 13 for pre-trial case management and released both accused on bail of RM1,600 each in one surety.
