Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man was fined RM10,000 in default six months’ imprisonment by the Sessions Court here for employing an undocumented Filipina at a coffee shop.
Yap Vui Shen pleaded guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to committing the offence under Section 55B of the Immigration Act at Kedai Kopi Syarikat Yu Kee along Jalan Gaya at 2.20pm on July 21 this year.
The provision provides for a fine ranging from RM10,000 to RM50,000, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both, for each undocumented person involved.
In the same court, 10 foreign nationals—comprising four Filipinos, three Indonesian men, two Pakistani men, and an Indonesian woman—were sentenced to four months’ jail from their respective arrest dates for entering the State without valid documents.
A Filipina was also fined RM1,000 in default four months’ jail for an identical entry offence, with all 11 ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentences or paying the fine.
