Kota Kinabalu: A man was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court after pleading guilty to selling diesel without a valid licence under the Sabah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's (KPDN) Integrated Ops Tiris 4.0.
KPDN Sabah Director Shahril Nizam Shahidin said Abdul Salam Ismail, 36, was sentenced by Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain on June 25, with a default jail term of six months if the fine was not paid, and the accused subsequently settled the fine.
He said the court also ordered RM774.09, being proceeds from the diesel sale, and all seized items to be forfeited to the government, except for the vehicle, which was ordered returned to its registered owner.
Shahril said the offence was uncovered during an intelligence-led operation by the Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Force on April 19 at a parking area along Jalan Tugu, where officers found 186 litres of diesel stored in a 1,000-litre intermediate bulk container (IBC) tank on a Toyota Hilux Rocco before investigations found the accused did not possess a valid licence to trade in the controlled item.
He said Sabah KPDN would continue strengthening enforcement under Integrated Ops Tiris 4.0 in collaboration with relevant agencies to curb the misappropriation of controlled goods and reminded the public that offenders could face fines, imprisonment and forfeiture of seized property under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
