A 46-YEAR-OLD man suspected of severely assaulting his seven-year-old nephew with a hammer was found dead near Pantai Melawi on Thursday night, approximately three kilometres from the scene of the alleged attack.
His body was discovered in a wooded area beneath a casuarina tree and is currently being examined by the police forensics team. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death.
Deputy Chief of Bachok District Police, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Azrie Sulaiman, said the child remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Specialist Hospital (HPUSM) in Kubang Kerian.
“We are continuing our investigation and will provide updates as the case develops,” he told reporters.
Earlier in the day, the boy, identified as Muhammad Ammar Muhammad Badrol, reportedly sustained serious head injuries in an incident believed to have occurred around 5.15pm at the suspect’s home, a shoplot residence in Jelawat.
According to preliminary reports, the attack was carried out with a hammer, though the motive remains unclear. The relationship between the suspect and the victim has been confirmed as that of uncle and nephew.
Further details surrounding the man’s death and the sequence of events leading to the assault are under investigation. - September 26, 2025
