KINABATANGAN: A 42-year-old man was found dead after he is believed to have jumped into the river at Kampung Batu Puteh, here, on Tuesday.
“Initial investigations found no criminal element and the case has been classified as sudden death pending the full post-mortem report,” said District Police Chief Supt Ravi A/L Duraisamy.
Ravi said they received a report on the incident at 4.40pm.
The victim, who worked as a graphic designer, was travelling with his wife from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu in a Perodua Ativa. She was unhurt.
“Preliminary investigations showed the victim’s vehicle had skidded at the Kampung Batu Puteh Bridge. The victim then suddenly exited the vehicle before jumping into the river,” he said.
A team comprising police, the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and local villagers was mobilised to launch a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
On Wednesday, around 11.15am, the victim’s body was found about five metres from where he was reported missing.
The body was sent to the Forensic Department of Kinabatangan Hospital for a post-mortem.
