
TAWAU: The identity of a man found dead near Taman Megah Jaya 9 here has been confirmed by the police, and the victim is believed to have suffered from a mental illness.
The deceased’s next of kin, who is also his brother-in-law, came forward on Wednesday to lodge a police report and identify the body at the Tawau Hospital mortuary.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said, the deceased was identified as a 49-year-old Indonesian national.

“For now, the case is being classified as a sudden death report (SDR), but police investigations are still ongoing,” he said in a media statement on Thursday.
Earlier, members of the public were shocked by the discovery of the man’s body, found blackened and hanging from a tree in a forested area on Tuesday.
A video of the scene, shared online by netizens, went viral, with some speculating that the victim may have taken his own life based on the condition in which he was found.
