Man found dead in locked store at UPSI sports facility

A 53-year-old man was found dead after being believed to be trapped in a locked store at the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) sports facility, Tanung Malim, early this morning.

The victim, an employee of the university, was found in a cleaning equipment store at the UPSI Sport Bowl.

Assistant Director of Operations of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said his department received an emergency call at 1.57 am from the police for assistance in opening the locked store door.

"A team of personnel from the Tanjung Malim Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the location approximately 9 kilometres away and arrived at 2.07 am.

"Upon arrival at the location, the store door was opened by the UPSI police. Firefighters then conducted a monitoring operation at the location," he said in a statement today.

He said the victim was confirmed dead at the location by officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

"The victim's body was handed over to the police. The operation ended completely at 2.36 am," he said.

A total of nine personnel were involved in the operation, along with an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit. - April 7, 2026
