Panic gripped the Delhi Gate area here this morning after a 53-year-old man was found hanging from the main gate of the Ayurvedic Hospital. Upon receiving a call via the 112 emergency helpline, the police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Jagat Singh, a resident of Devna village in the Sangrah tehsil of Sirmaur district. Local residents noted that Singh, who was unmarried, was a familiar face in the town, having sold vegetables near the hospital gate for the past 10 to 12 years.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the incident occurred late at night when pedestrian movement near the busy Delhi Gate bus stop was minimal. According to his family, Singh reportedly struggled with alcohol addiction and had spent the last four to five days in his native village, during which his vegetable stall remained closed.

The police took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
