Kota Kinabalu: A 47-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years' jail and ordered to receive 10 strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here for raping his 18-year-old daughter.
Sessions Court Judge Marlina Ibrahim handed down the sentence after the unrepresented accused pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a house in Beaufort at 7am on March 4, this year.
The court ordered the prison sentence to run from his date of arrest on March 5, and directed him to undergo three years of police supervision upon release.
The court heard that the accused had dragged the victim into a room before sexually assaulting her, and subsequently threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Dk Afiqah Alya urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, submitting that the accused had abused his position of trust as a biological father to carry out repeated assaults on the victim before his arrest.
