
Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old man to one day jail and fined him RM10,000 or three month’s jail for drunk-driving.
Aldrian Kee pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence at Jalan Coastal here, at 2.05am on May 8, this year.
Kee was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and fined between RM10,000 and RM30,000 and lost qualification from holding or getting a driving licence for not less than two years from the date of conviction.
The court also ordered Kee to be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving license for a period of not less than two years from the date of his conviction.
Meanwhile, five people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.
Ag Mohammad Fazrie, Rakiy Salim, Shahrulnorazhar Rosslan and Azhaari Sharudin admitted separately to taking syabu at different locations here and Penampang between Aug 31 and Sept 15.
Mohammad and Shahrulnorazhar were each sentenced to six months jail while Rakiy and Azhaari were ordered to pay a fine of RM2,000 or six months jail, respectively.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.
The fifth man, Nazrie Lamani pleaded guilty to having 0.08gm of syabu at Kg Air here at 3.20pm on Sept 9.
He was handed 10 months jail from the date of his arrest.
Nazrie was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.
