KOTA KINABALU: A local man suspected of being part of a drug trafficking syndicate was arrested following three separate raids in the city centre that led to the seizure of over 20 kilogrammes of various drugs.

The operations, conducted by the Kota Kinabalu police narcotics team on July 4, uncovered drugs worth an estimated RM960,000.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the first raid at a condominium led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man and the discovery of nearly 800 grammes of syabu along with money-counting and packing equipment.

Later that day, the suspect led police to a parked vehicle containing a bag with 12.7 kilogrammes of syabu, 6.9 kilogrammes of ketamine, as well as ecstasy pills and packets.

Jauteh said some of the drugs, including liquid-based ones, were meant for local use in entertainment venues while the rest were believed to be destined for neighbouring countries.

Police also seized assets worth RM240,000 suspected to be linked to drug proceeds, and the suspect remains in custody under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
