Man held for 106gm syabu in Sandakan raid

SANDAKAN: A man (pic) suspected to be a drug dealer was arrested with 106.21 grammes of syabu during a raid at a house in Kampung Pulau Shanghai on Wednesday.

Sandakan District Police Chief ACP George Abd Rakman said the operation, conducted by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) of Sandakan District Police Headquarters (IPD), took place between 9am and 3pm following intelligence on drug distribution in the area.

“The suspect was arrested along with substances believed to be syabu weighing 106.21 gramme. He is now being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for suspected involvement in drug trafficking,” he said.

The suspect underwent an initial urine screening test at the BSJND office, which returned positive for amphetamine.

He is being further detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. George added that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the district.

“The police will continue to intensify operations and enforcement actions to curb drug trafficking activities for the safety of the community,” he said.
