
PENAMPANG: A 56-year-old may face death penalty after he was arrested for allegedly possessing syabu weighing 54.23gm at a house here, on Thursday.
District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the suspect was apprehended around 8pm after five plastic packets containing the drugs were seized from him.
“The seized syabu has an estimated market value of RM5,500,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 which carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life imprisonment, and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes, on conviction.
“The suspect, who also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, has been remanded for further investigations and also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for taking drugs.
