Tuaran: A 30-year-old local was arrested by the Sabah Wildlife Department for allegedly selling protected wildlife parts at a stall in Tamu Tenghilan, Tuaran, during a Rapid Response Team (RRT) enforcement operation on Thursday (March 12).

The operation, conducted around 8.05am based on intelligence from the department’s unit, led to the seizure of several wildlife parts, including two sun bear claws, one sun bear paw, one sun bear tooth, one pangolin scale, one muntjac horn, and sixteen porcupine quills.

Sabah Wildlife Department Director Mohd Soffian Abu Bakar said the trade and possession of these species or any of their parts without authorization is an offence under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.

“Anyone convicted can face fines ranging from RM50,000 to RM250,000 and imprisonment of one to five years,” he said.

The arrested individual is being investigated under the Enactment.
