PENAMPANG: Police have arrested a 41-year-old local man to assist in investigations into the death of a 44-year-old local woman.
Penampang police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the victim was taken unconscious by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on Aug 31 before being pronounced dead later that night.
He said initial investigations revealed that the incident was believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect, who is believed to be her boyfriend, before she was allegedly assaulted.
Following the arrest by the Penampang Criminal Investigation Division, investigators and the Sabah police contingent headquarters D10 forensics team inspected the scene, seizing several case items and samples for forensic analysis.
Sammy said the case is being investigated for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, while advising the public not to speculate on the case as investigations remain ongoing.
