On March 28, it was reported that a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar caused havoc in both Myanmar and Thailand as bridges and buildings collapsed.
Now, a Korean man in Bangkok is going viral after a video recording of him jumping across a condominium sky bridge to get to his family was shared online. In the video, the bridge can be seen slowly breaking apart due to the earthquake.
The high-rise buildings were swaying as debris fell
According to The Straits Times, the Korean man Kwon Young-Jun was exercising on the 52nd floor of one of the condominium blocks when the earthquake happened.
In videos circulating online, Kwon’s high-rise condominium could be seen visibly swaying during the quake. Meanwhile, the debris from the bridges connecting the condo blocks could also be seen falling to the ground.

Kwon leaps across a bridge to get to his family
During this time, his wife and young child were in their condominium unit located on the 30th floor of the neighbouring block.
In an effort to get to them, Kwon leapt across the sky bridge just as it was completely detaching from the neighbouring block.
Once across, Kwon learned that his family had evacuated and proceeded to walk down over 40 flights of stairs. Kwon’s wife, Ms Bowyuri, who is also a content creator and entrepreneur, shared that they reunited outside the building.
During an interview with Thairath TV, Kwon shared that he had never experienced an earthquake like this in South Korea.
“At the time, I was just worried about my child, I had to go and take care of my wife and child.” Kwon told interviewers.
He also explained that he heard a loud bang just after he leapt across the bridge, but didn’t think much of it and just kept running without looking back.
He is currently receiving physiotherapy treatment
Thankfully, Kwon escaped with only minor bruises on his arms, although a later update on Ms Bowyuri’s TikTok page showed Kwon struggling to walk as he felt extremely sore from the events on March 28. He is currently receiving treatment at a physiotherapy centre.
In another update on Facebook by My Bowyuri, she shared that the family is currently living with her parents.
“Now I don’t dare to live in a high-rise condominium. I’m very scared,” her caption wrote.

Origin, the developer of the condo, also confirmed that the building is safe following checks. It also clarified that the structure of the connecting bridge is still strong, and that it is designed to be attached to only one building in the event of earthquakes.
