Man In China Loses 30kg After Replacing Rice With Potatoes For 6 Months

Losing weight is no doubt the hardest goal for anyone to achieve, and sometimes, it feels harder than scaling Mount Kinabalu.

A man in Guangdong, China, found himself a cheap and effective way of shedding the extra pounds by replacing white rice with this one vegetable—potatoes.

Ate potatoes for 6 months

According to China Press, the man named Chen went for a health checkup and was found to be in a bad shape.

Wanting to improve his quality of life, Chen decided to replace his usual white rice with potatoes, where they would either be steamed, boiled or baked without oil.

For lunch and dinner, Chen would consume a fist-sized portion of potatoes for lunch and dinner, while maintaining a healthy diet of lean meat, fish, eggs and leafy vegetables on top of it.

As for breakfast, he opted for eggs with unsweetened soy milk or milk.

Lost 32kg

Thanks to this diet, Chen witnessed a sharp decrease in his body weight, where he lost 20kg within the first three months and another 12kg in the next three.

At the end of a six-month period, his body weight stood at less than 68kg, a sharp drop from his previous weight of 100kg.

Aside from his weight, Chen also saw vast improvements in his blood pressure, sugar levels, and fatty liver.

One reason why the diet worked so well for Chen is because steamed potatoes not only contain about two-thirds the calories of rice, but also have fibre and gives greater satiety.

Potatoes are also rich in potassium, a mineral that helps in maintaining sodium-potassium balance for those who consume high sodium foods.

However, it must be noted that Chen’s diet may not work for everyone as it’s dependent on one’s body type and health conditions.
