
A salesman and his friends were searching for cattle thieves when they were ambushed by a group of five men, leaving one man with a gunshot wound to the chin.
KOTA BHARU: A man was shot and injured during an early morning confrontation in Ladang Kemahang, Tanah Merah.
The incident occurred around 2.30 am after a group patrolling the area encountered several suspects.
Tanah Merah district police chief Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the victim was part of a group searching for cow thieves from 1.30 am. He stated the patrol came across a group of about five men, comprising both foreign and local individuals.
“The suspects were then believed to have fired a few shots from close range at the salesman and his friends,” he said in a statement. The group then fled the scene to save themselves.
The gunfire resulted in one man, 43-year-old Mohd Khairul Amri Ab Kadir, being struck in the chin. He was subsequently taken to Tanah Merah Hospital for further treatment.
During the incident, a suspect also reportedly stole the victim’s Honda EX5 motorcycle. Police are currently searching for the five suspects involved in the shooting.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation by contacting their nearest police station.
