
Kota Kinabalu: A self-employed man was jailed seven months by the Magistrate’s Court, Monday, for posing as a police officer.
Md Aswanda Alfian Alfian Asrin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazal to committing the offence at noon on Sept 13 at Mong Café, Bandar Sierra.
Aswanda earlier informed the court that he wished to change his plea to guilty when his case came up for pre-trial case management.
The charge under Section 170 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum two-year jail term or a fine, or both.

Read more Inspector Albert Basiri nformed the court that Aswandar entered the café and introduced himself as a policeman and demanded money from a café’s worker as well as borrowed her cellphone to call his friend.
The complainant stated that Aswanda wore a T-shirt bearing the police’s logo, said the prosecution, adding that the complainant’s friend who was called to deal with Aswanda noticed him behaving suspiciously and contacted the police.
The police came and found Aswanda posing as a policeman after conducting documentation on him.
Unrepresented, Aswanda requested a lenient sentence by saying that he has a child.
The court ordered him to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
In another case, a restaurant waiter was charged with threatening to kill his father.
Lo Vui Min, 43, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence against Chong Sui Kyun and at same time pointing a knife towards him at 12.30am on Oct 18 in a unit at Kg Air here.
The charge is framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, proposed no bail because the accused and the alleged victim are staying in the same house.
Duty counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Lo, applied for a lower bail as he has six children and is the sole breadwinner of his family.
The court set Nov 24 for pre-trial case management and offered bail at RM6,000 in two sureties with additional conditions to report to the police station once a month and not to tamper with any of the prosecution’s witnesses.
