Man jailed after hiding foreign firearms and ammunition in shipping container

  • Robert Weir, 56, has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for multiple firearms and drug offences.
  • Police discovered a cache of weapons, including a loaded, shortened Russian shotgun, a loaded Japanese shotgun, and two handguns with ammunition, in a shipping container he rented at Sandpoint Marina in Dumbarton.
  • Weir admitted to these firearms offences at the High Court in Glasgow.
  • He also pleaded guilty to possessing 1.7kg of cannabis, with a street value of £17,202, which was found at his home.
  • The Crown Office emphasised the importance of removing these weapons, which had the potential to cause significant harm, from circulation.
