
Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old was jailed eight months by the Magistrate’s Court here for keeping 23 cable rods belonging to Sabah Electricity.
Mohd Safik Arman pleaded guilty to having the cables on March 24, at 9.30am, by the roadside of Jalan Tambunan-Penampang, at Kg Tomposik, in Penampang.
The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years and liability of a fine on conviction.
The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that Safik was arrested by police, who acted on information for committing the offence.
The police also seized a vehicle and several tools.
The magistrate ordered Safik to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and ordered the seized exhibits to be returned to its rightful owner.
Meanwhile, a foreigner was jailed two months for committing a similar offence.
Abdul Shari Khalid admitted to having a stolen Vivo Y211 handphone belonging to one Ponirah Dian on March 19, at 12.15am, in a house at Kg Darau Baru, Inanam.
The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that the handphone was among the properties reported stolen in the complainant’s house in Manggatal on March 17.
Shari, who was arrested by police on March 19, surrendered the stolen mobile phone, which was later identified by the complainant as her own.
Shari was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
He was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the imprisonment sentence.
