
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man who stole various items from a grocery store was on Monday jailed five months.
Nadzri Ramlan, 23, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to stealing detergents, shampoos, ointments, face cleansers, cooking oil, biscuits, bags, talcum powder and deodorant at Kedai Runcit JS Ceria, Kg Sembulan Lama, at 3.40am on July 30.
The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction.
The court was informed by the prosecution that the shop owner was at home when she heard noises in the shop and saw an unknown man, later identified as Nadzri, behind the door of the shop.

Read more The complainant and her two siblings went out to check and found Nadzri carrying two plastic bags. Nadzri left the bags behind and tried to flee but was apprehended.
Nadzri was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
In another case, 59-year-old, man who fraudulently had RM660 deposited into his bank account, was fined RM100 or a day’s jail.
Poon Sin Woon admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the money which he failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained them on May 14, this year.
The offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, provides a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both, on conviction.
Meanwhile, two people were penalised for taking drugs.
Mohamad Jerry and Yeoh Chee Khong pleaded guilty to committing the offence here on April 15 and 9, this year.
Mohamad was jailed 16 months while Yeoh eight months.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
