
A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly mowing down a scooty rider with a Mercedes car and fleeing the scene in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, police said on Tuesday.
According to police, the accident took place on Sunday near the foot overbridge at the Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on the Outer Ring Road (GTK Bypass towards ISBT).
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the crash and found the scooty rider critically injured. He was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak, a resident of Mangolpuri.
During the investigation, police received crucial information from a PCR caller, who reported that a Mercedes car bearing a Haryana registration number had hit the scooty before fleeing the spot.
The vehicle was subsequently traced, following which police served a notice under Section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act on its registered owner. The inquiry revealed that Ansh Pratap Singh was driving the Mercedes at the time of the accident.
A case has been registered under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Jahangirpuri police station. The accused was arrested, and further investigation is under way.
