A man named Deri alias Noman (30) in Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), stabbed his friend with the initials KM (47) to death because of a heated argument over whether the chicken or the egg came first. This murder happened while they were both drinking alcohol.
The incident happened at Jalan Poros Raha-Lakapera, Labasa Village, Tongkuno Selatan District, Muna. It started when the victim initially came to Deri's house to pay a debt, as reported by KOMPAS.
"The victim stopped at the suspect house to come to pay the debt," said AKP Polisi Muna Kasatreskrim La Ode Arsangka in his testimony on Saturday (27/7/2024).
When the victim arrived, the suspect was also at the location while drinking alcohol. The victim was also invited by the perpetrator to join him in drinking.
"This criminal invites the victim to drink alcohol," said Arsangka.
Arsangka continued, and the perpetrator then asked the victim a riddle. The perpetrator asked the victim which one came first, the chicken or the egg.
"The criminal gave the victim a riddle by saying, 'What comes first, the chicken or the egg'. After that the two of them argued," he said.
Later, the victim apologized and left the debate. However, the perpetrator apparently followed the victim from behind and ran towards his house.
"Suddenly the criminal returned home with a badik and chased the victim. After finding him, the perpetrator then stabbed the victim several times," he said.
Arsangka added that the perpetrator surrendered to the police. Sadly, the victim died as a result of stab wounds.
"The perpetrator took the badik and surrendered to the Tongkuno Police," added Arsangka.
Arsangka did not specify any other trigger behind the killing. Investigators are still examining the statements of the perpetrators and witnesses at the scene of the incident (the crime scene).
"We are still investigating this matter (the killing behind the chicken and egg debate)," he concluded.
