KENINGAU: A 44-year-old man was killed in a road accident involving a three-tonne lorry and a Perodua Kenari along Jalan Keningau-Tenom near Kampung Kitung on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, identified as Jinus Anang, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 4.15pm due to severe chest injuries.

Police said initial investigations found the lorry, driven by a 37-year-old man with a passenger, was travelling from Tenom towards Keningau when the Kenari, approaching from the opposite direction, is believed to have entered its lane on a downhill straight stretch, resulting in a head-on collision.

District police chief Supt Yampil Garai said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
