SEMPORNA: A 55-year-old man was killed in a fire that destroyed six houses in Kampung Pinggiran Bakau, here, Monday.
The fire also destroyed a small shop and two vehicles.
Semporna Fire and Rescue Station Chief Madzlan Sarman said the non-Malaysian victim known as Ladin by villagers was found in the toilet in his house at 11.16am.
He said the department received a call about the fire at 9am and firemen managed to bring the blaze under control and stop it from spreading at 9.45am.
“The charred remains of the unidentified man were found by firemen at 11.16am among the debris of one of the houses,” he said.
Madzlan said the body has been handed over to the police for further action, adding investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and assess the extent of the damage.
