A 39-year-old man died after a shark attack at Kennedy Shoal in Far North Queensland, the second fatal incident in Australian waters this month.

SYDNEY: A man died following a shark attack off the coast of Australia’s Far North Queensland region on Sunday, according to local media, reported Xinhua.

Emergency services were called to the Hull River boat ramp, 160 kilometres south of Cairns, just after 12 pm, after receiving reports of a shark attack, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

A 39-year-old man is understood to have been attacked while at Kennedy Shoal, a reef site, before being retrieved from the water.

He was taken ashore on the Hull River boat ramp and was treated by paramedics, the broadcaster 9News reported.

Queensland Police later confirmed he had died of his injuries, according to 9News.

It is the second fatal shark attack in Australian waters recently, after a 38-year-old man died after being attacked by a shark at Rottnest Island off the coast of Perth on May 16.
