
TAWAU: A collision between a four-wheel-drive and car at KM45 Jalan Tawau-Semporna resulted in the death of a man and six injured, three of them serious, at 5.30pm on Saturday.
The deceased, a 39-year-old, was a passenger in one of the vehicles, according to Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin.
Initial findings showed that the four-wheel-drive driven by a 24-year-old woman with four passengers aged between four and 49 were heading towards Semporna from Tawau.
A car driven by a 38-year-old appeared from behind a lorry parked on the opposite lane and cut into the four-wheel-drive’s lane, resulting in the collision.
The 39-year-old passenger in the second car was killed on the spot and the 38-year-old driver seriously injured.
The four-wheel-drive driver and her four passengers sustained injuries, two seriously.
All the injured victims were rushed to the Tawau Hospital.
Tawau firefighters led by Zougarana Konin also arrived at the scene following a 5.33pm distress call.
