SEMPORNA: A man is believed to have been mauled by a crocodile while out fishing at the Pegagau River, here, about 3pm on Sunday.
Semporna Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Faisal Ahmad said the victim, 35, was with his cousin during the attack.
However, the cousin managed to escape and lodged a report at the district police station.
According to Faisal, the station received the distress call at 7.16pm and deployed a team of five on a boat for Search and Rescue operations. They are using “water surface” methods.
He said the boat went around the rivermouth but lack of cellular service posed a challenge.
“Day one of operations was called off at 8.53pm due to weather. Operations picked up at 7.01 am on Monday and postponed at 4.10pm.
“Operations will continue on Tuesday morning (today),” he said adding so far there are no positive indicators as to the victim’s discovery after sweeping 3km radius.
