
TAWAU: Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect believed to be involved in a hypnosis case that resulted in a victim losing about RM30,000 in cash and valuables.
Police released two photographs of the wanted individual on Saturday, showing a man dressed in a light blue shirt, black trousers and wearing a distinctive black skullcap with yellow stripes.
The suspect, who also wore glasses and black sandals in the images, allegedly committed the crime at a 24-hour convenience store located on Jalan Haji Karim in the Fajar area on March 29.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said an investigation is underway under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
“We urge anyone who recognises this individual or has information about his whereabouts to come forward immediately,” he said in a statement, here, Saturday.

The case gained public attention after the victim’s child shared details of the incident on social media, claiming that their father had been hypnotised by three individuals, including the man in the circulated photographs.
The two other alleged accomplices remain unknown as at press time.
